THE WEST HIGHLAND WAY
Slighe na Gàidhealtachd an Iar
Scotland’s first official long distance route links Milngavie to Fort William – a distance of 154km (96 miles) - from the northern outskirts of Glasgow, to the foot of Ben Nevis at Fort William.
The Route passes through Mugdock Country Park, follows the shores of Loch Lomond, passing Ben Lomond, through Glen Falloch and Strathfillan, crossing Rannoch Moor, past Buachaille Etive Mor to the head of Glencoe, climbing the Devil’s Staircase, descending to sea level to cross the River Leven at the head of Loch Leven before entering Lairigmor and Glen Nevis.
The terrain ranges from lowland moors, dense woodland and rolling hills, to high mountainous regions in the Scottish Highlands. These environments provide habitats for a diverse range of wildlife species, both flora and fauna.
Get on your boots and have some fun !
Join the celebrations to mark the official opening of the new end to the West Highland Way in Fort William which completes the ‘Routes West’ Fort William town centre enhancement project.
A draft programme can be found on the events page. There will also be a ‘Find the Missing Boot’ competition (more details to follow) and we are working with the licensees and catering sector to encourage them to welcome WHW ‘musicians’ and offer WHW ‘specials’.
NO PARKING will be available for participants in this event at the Ben Nevis Woollen Mill. Please leave your car in one of the many town centre car parks and it will be much handier for you at the end of the day! We appreciate your co-operation in this matter.
Please e mail gordon.forrester@lochlomond-trossachs.org if you are coming and if bringing your fiddle, guitar, pipes or vuvazala(no,no!).The day of celebration is Saturday 11 September. A car parking map will be available nearer the date of the event.
